There are many paths to healing and coping with illness. If spirituality is an important part of your life, Valley Baptist Health System offers opportunities to find the support that you need during trying times.
Pastoral Staff
Our pastoral care staff and interns offer patients and family members spiritual services, including routine bedside visitation, prayer, sacramental support and connection with your local clergy.
Patients and families may choose to call on chaplains 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
- Before and after surgery or other serious procedures
- When confronting new diagnosis or difficult illness
- For help coping with fear or uncertainty
- When concerned about the past or future, family or death

Worship Services
At Valley Baptist, our chaplains provide spiritual care for all patients and families coping with health challenges and life-changing events. Everyone, including visitors and staff, are welcome to attend services provided by the Pastoral Services Department Chaplains.
Harlingen Services
Our services are held in the Dane and Bettye Ann Smith Memorial Chapel, first floor near the South Tower Lobby. There is a noon worship service on Sunday and a noon prayer service on Wednesday.
The Dane and Bettye Ann Smith Memorial Chapel at Harlingen is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for prayer and meditation.
The Dane and Bettye Ann Smith Memorial Prayer Room at Harlingen’s East Tower across from Health Management, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for individual prayer.
Brownsville Services
Our services are held in the Herminio and Francisca E. de Yturria Chapel. Prayer services are held upon request.
The Herminio and Francisa E. de Yturria Chapel, renovated in 2008, is the original convent chapel established by the Sisters of Mercy. This beautiful chapel features antique Stations of the Cross, imported from France, and many original pieces recovered from the original chapel from the 1920s.
