Valley Baptist Health System is here to help get your nursing career started on the right foot. We offer a year-long New Grad RN Nurse Residency program for newly licensed RNs who are within the first six months of their professional RN practice.
Our goal is to provide you with the tools needed to help you on your journey to exceptional bedside care. The Valley Baptist Health System New Grad RN Residency program will provide orientation to your hospital and selected area of practice. You will
achieve competency in many areas of nursing practice including acute-care regulatory requirements, interpersonal and critical thinking skills and the technical proficiency required for your chosen clinical area.
Areas of practice include:
- Adult Critical Care
- ICU Stepdown
- Emergency Department
- Labor and Delivery
- Perioperative
- MedSurg/Telemetry
- Neonatal ICU
- Pediatrics
About the Program
The program is structured to support new nurse cohort bonding with your peers. You will participate in online as well as classroom learning, meet and interact with your team members, fellow nurses, administration, nursing and physician leaders. Your program
includes an assigned nurse preceptor who will work with you beginning at orientation and throughout your program. You will be supported with ongoing training and will have opportunities for networking and social activities during the year.
Some of the Nurse Residency program proficiencies include:
- Integration of evidence-based clinical nursing practice
- Shared decision making
- Provision of safe, compassionate, patient-centered
- Techniques that support positive team and interpersonal communication
- Dynamics of family/patient/nurse interaction
- Safety and quality improvement to reduce risk of harm
- Compliance with approved processes and regulatory requirements
- Appropriate use of information technology to prevent errors and support decision making
The program will also include frequent touchpoints for students, social events and activities throughout the year, achievement celebrations, a buddy/preceptor assignment program and more.
Upon acceptance into the program, you'll be hired onto your unit and attend the residency program concurrently.
Qualifications
To be considered for the program you must have either a Texas RN license, a Compact State RN license or a temporary Texas RN license. You must be a new graduate RN or RN with less than 6 months nursing experience, hold a current BLS for Healthcare Providers
Certification, have a BSN or ADN or be planning to pursue your BSN.
